For your education (read: amusement), I have taken 20 pictures of WORKIES, which is also known as “the building I happen to work in.” If you are unfamiliar with workies, I suggest reading Taylons <a href=“http://www.romshand.com/taylon/strips.php?n=70” target=_blank>70</a> and <a href=“http://www.romshand.com/taylon/strips.php?n=132” target=_blank>132</a>, so you know who the Fat Man is (my boss).
I might as well start with the outside.
Here are some parking spaces. This is where you will park if you decide to bring me Wendy’s while I am working (HINT, HINT). The blue car is mine. It is the DEATH-CAR, and it produces a very unhealthy amount of carbon monoxide. You’d think I’d be dead by now from driving it, but perhaps I’m invincible. Note the missing hubcap, and the windshield wipers that activate at random:

The back door, which is the only usable entrance (the front door is blocked by CLUTTER). This is where my soul hangs out while I’m inside:
<img src=“http://www.romshand.com/pix/workies/workies14.jpg”>
The office where I spend most of my time. Note the sad lack of decent light. On the left is the computer, “Mars,” which is the slowest computer I have ever used:
<img src=“http://www.romshand.com/pix/workies/workies01.jpg”>
A dark shot of my computer, which is named “Saturn,” because the guy who set up the network likes planets or something. Saturn has a fun habit of restarting itself without warning at complete random. Thanks, Windows 2000!:
<img src=“http://www.romshand.com/pix/workies/workies02.jpg”>
A somewhat decent computer. Note the CLUTTER:
<img src=“http://www.romshand.com/pix/workies/workies03.jpg”>
The timecard area where I punch in. The microwave is at least 106 years old. Also, there is a large about of CLUTTER above the microwave, including very old computer parts that no one will ever use or look at again:
<img src=“http://www.romshand.com/pix/workies/workies04.jpg”>
Technology!!:
<img src=“http://www.romshand.com/pix/workies/workies06.jpg”>
This is a picture of the ceiling light in my office (which does not work). I shot a rubber band into the light out of boredom. This was a year ago:
<img src=“http://www.romshand.com/pix/workies/workies07.jpg”>
A video editing station? Or CLUTTER? You decide. I think someone’s watching a Spanish network on the left:
<img src=“http://www.romshand.com/pix/workies/workies08.jpg”>
This is the computer of, you guessed it, <img src=“http://www.romshand.com/pix/ticon_omg.gif”>. This is one of the rare moments Microsoft Outlook is <i>not</i> open on his desktop. Usually, he just keeps the program open when he leaves workies for the day:
<img src=“http://www.romshand.com/pix/workies/workies09.jpg”>
The Dictaphone machine, a.k.a. the oldest computer in history. We stopped using it two years ago, and it’s still here:
<img src=“http://www.romshand.com/pix/workies/workies10.jpg”>
A collection of CD’s and videos? Or CLUTTER?? You decide. Notice the CAT5 cable going into the ceiling, then out of the ceiling. Nice networking job, Trotsky:

This hole in the picture frame was created by my (other) boss, out of frustration toward <img src=“http://www.romshand.com/pix/ticon_omg.gif”>. It was either caused by a DVD case or a small TV remote. I wasn’t there when it happened, and I am thankful for it, because I would have surely been killed:
<img src=“http://www.romshand.com/pix/workies/workies12.jpg”>
BOY, I SURE WORK A LOT:
<img src=“http://www.romshand.com/pix/workies/workies15.jpg”>
This wonderful program takes up much of my time whem I’m at workies. FreeCell is open somewhere behind CNN.com:
<img src=“http://www.romshand.com/pix/workies/workies16.jpg”>
This video camera looks very old. I am certain that it’s unable to film the Worldwar movie. It’s probably broken like everything else around the office anyway:
<img src=“http://www.romshand.com/pix/workies/workies18.jpg”>
The front office, or CLUTTER??? You decide:
<img src=“http://www.romshand.com/pix/workies/workies20.jpg”>
Someone left bread next to the microwave. That may or may not be peanut butter on the bread. I’m guessing not. We always go the extra mile to keep our establishment clean:
<img src=“http://www.romshand.com/pix/workies/workies21.jpg”>
Here’s some more peanut butter. My (other) boss’ afternoon snack consists of peanut butter on crackers that smell like, I kid you not, old cigarette ashes. Also notice the aging printer on the right, which throws a chunk of toner at the paper when it tries to print something, resulting in a blackened page:
<img src=“http://www.romshand.com/pix/workies/workies22.jpg”>
This picture of the network router in my office was taken with NIGHTSHOT™® because there is very little light in the room. This is Trotsky’s gift to the office: an impossible maze of wires. Also note: the router’s cooling fan is dirty or dying or something, so it makes a VVVVVVRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR sound all day long. Punching the top of the router no longer helps. Also also note: the surge protector is on its side. It is not leaning against the wall, it’s just sitting like that. And since it’s sitting on top of the server, that will be the first thing to go when the surge protector bursts into flames. Hooray!:
<img src=“http://www.romshand.com/pix/workies/workies23.jpg”>
So there you have it: my place of business. I never had an opportunity to photograph <img src=“http://www.romshand.com/pix/ticon_omg.gif”>, so I’ll just use the picture he conveniently took for his website.
