The internet isn't what it used to be

So I saw this on a message board I go to regularly:

Due to very recent events, I wanted to make something as clear as I can to the patrons of this message board: We care about you, and if we think you’re in trouble, we can, will, and tonight have contacted the authorities. I had a police officer sitting on the edge of my bed, fending off my cat not long ago, because some one from this forum may have been in serious trouble and needed help. I will do it again without hesitation if I ever have to.

But there’s a chance that the whole thing was caused by a lie, that several police officers across the country have wasted time better spent with real crimes and that some one’s family now has to deal with false accusations. We will likely never know. My heart goes out to the chatter in question, whether her plight was real or not. She’s in for a rough few days either way.

In light of this, I want to make sure it’s clear to everyone how serious it is for you to falsely claim something illegal is happening. We can’t just comfort you and let it go, we have to contact the authorities. Especially since so many of our users are minors. The internet is not as anonymous as you may think, and what you say here can affect you in real life. If you say something illegal is happening in your home, and it in fact is not, imagine how your parents will feel when the police show up.

I hope that if any of you genuinely need help, you won’t be afraid to seek it here if we can give it. But please, don’t ever lie about serious crimes on this message board.

Comments?

I, for one, have this to say: MIND YOUR OWN FUCKING BUSINESS, BITCH!

If people say they are catboys online, people will just humor them, no matter how ridiculous and strange the idea of an actual catboy may be. But if there’s a crime, OH NO! We must drop the facade and call the cops. What the fuck? That’s like playing Dungeon Siege and saying “I’ma rape you, beholder!” and getting arrested the following day. The internet is no place to look for help, legal or otherwise. People shouldn’t try to make it an acceptable source of anything, for fear that horrible regulations such as “Don’t lie” would be incorporated. This just makes me sad.

about as ridiculous as online relationships…

and I’m sure a few people on this forum know about that.

You should be arrested and then beaten, violently, for playing shitty games.

I don’t get it.

Explain it to me slowly and with as few words as possible. I will then try to wrap my idiot mind around it, then I will probably laugh.

Basically, a person on the board said “OMG a crime is happening here.” and one of the mods felt it was their duty to call the police. I do not agree with this policy.

There is a crime happening here…in my pants.

why would anyone take anything said on a forum about crimes seriously?

I suggest you remove the small child from your pants before the cops find out.

For your own good I have reported your crime(cream?)-filled pants to the police. They will then arrest your pants and put them in jail for 5000000000000000000 years.

For some reason the title of this thread reminds me of a Simpsons moment.

“Old grey mare, ain’t what she used to be, ain’t what she used to be, ain’t what she used to be.”

Everything is reminescent of a Simpsons moment, for the Simpsons have done it all. And yet they keep making new ones.

as long a new stuff becomes funny, they will be there.
