Okay, all of you have had the doubtful pleasure of seeing the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show. From gay-looking Casey Jones to black Baxter Stockman, coupled with a distinct lack of Bebop and Rocksteady, this show definitely sings a different tune than the one we grew up watching. But did you know that’s how it was SUPPOSED to be? Yes, the original comics, Tales of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, actually had the darker artwork, the different origin for Splinter, and pretty much every other thing that makes this show “fake” in the eyes of the fans. Marketing and spin artists forced the creators of the comics to make drastic changes for the TV show, to the point where it had very little resemblence to their original idea. With this new show, they finally have total creative control, and can tell the REAL story. Which is, no krang, no dimension X, no robot Foot Ninjas, no Bebop or Rocksteady, and pretty much as little mutants as possible, to make the Turtles seem more special. And of course, for some reason, gay Casey Jones.
What a world eh? Oh, and in case you were wondering, the first cartoon was shut down by the FCC for not being educational enough. Way to go there.
So what are we to accept as real? This new/old version, fitting the original comic’s intent, minus some of the violence, or the old, completely nuts show, which created a second series in the early nineties, wherein Aliens and some guy with dreadlocks became central to the plot?
