I… don’t know what say… so beautiful… have look: http://www.apple.com/powermac/
Fastest personal computer. Beautiful. 8 fucking GB of RAM, max. Holy fuck. I men… yes. Dual 2GHz. Out in August. So jealous of bastards who will buy one.
I will kill one of them and steal it.
megahertz don’t matter really, they’re both 64-bit processors so they should be compared. throw in the itanium to please those intel fans out there too.
if you look at the g5 whitepaper it shows that the pentium 4 performs better with integer calculations, isn’t that strange?
Not really.
And I believe you misinterpreted what I said. The AMD chip probably has a higher frequency (I have not seen any specs, so I’m assuming), but the G5 probably makes better use of its Hz (PowerPC chips have always been faster for the MHz than x86 chips), and so yes they should be compared, because it is difficult to say how much the G5 compensates for its probably Hz defficiency.
The Hertz don’t always matter, Donatello. If you remember, the AMD Athlon 1.0-1.8 (I think) ghz models were faster than the P4 1.2-2.0 ghz models. It all depends on the number of steps needed to process something, and the complexity of the steps. There are other factors, like if the chip is 32 or 64 bit, stuff like that. But it’s mostly dependant upon the architecture of the chip.
Even if I had the money, I still wouldn’t buy one. The 8GB MAXIMUM is nice, but I doubt anyone would need that much for the price you’ll have to pay for it… since it’s a “personal computer.” Which speaking of: “The world’s first 64-bit personal computer”. Yeah ok, as personal as a 64-bits MIPS powered SGI O2 was back then! I don’t like this kind of advertisement. Oh well, it’s Mac’s only way to survive in this harsh world. Don’t get me started on Safari, because mean mean Micro$oft quit making Internet Exploiter for Apple Mac.
One of the teachers from my school, uses one of those new PowerMacs (with MacOS X). He’s evaluating it, actually. So far he told me he hates it! Before he started teaching at my school, in the (pre-)press industry, he only worked with Macs. He likes AMD/Intel based computers way better, even though PMS and Windoze need to improve.

Too bad Linux hasn’t managed to break through the Mac/Windoze monopoly in the print/press industry, otherwise I should’ve told him about Linux!
…
These are actually pretty well-priced. I mean, yeah, they’re a little more expensive than they need to be because Apple is looking for graphics professionals who have been waiting to now snap them up no matter the cost. And they will. And then Apple will say “Ha, ha, graphics pros, suddenly the computer you paid [between $2,000 and $5,000] for is now selling for [between $1,700 and $4,000]!” and the graphics professionals will say “Well, damn. I’ll get you next time, Apple! NEEEEEXT TIME!”
But I mean, the 1.6 GHz will perform very nicely compared to Dell’s highest-end offering, which I notice is only about $100 less. And, yes, when you say PC it is nearly synonymous with Dell, because Dell is one of the largest wintel makers. So yeah, if you only have $1,900 to spend on a computer, the Mac is going to be OMG SOOOOOO XPENSIVE I NEEDS CHEEP PUTAR.
Ok, I bought my PC, with everything on it (and believe me, it’s about 10x better than ANY Dell that you can configure), for $2000. It has basically everything I’ll need for the next two years, without upgrading anything. Why would I spend the same amount for an Apple, when I know that the OS is pure crap? Hell, who knows what kind of “great” hardware that Apple has put into them. Remember the iMacs? THEY DON’T HAVE VENTALATION FANS. I’m betting that the G5s aren’t much better. Do they need one? Probably not. Would it help? Hell yes. Also, I’m guessing that the $2000 starting price is without a monitor. And the Mac monitors that are 19" flatscreens are how much? They’re $700 at the cheapest. I know it’s a little off-subject, but why spend $2000 just for the PC, and not even have a decent monitor to look at the nice grafics that you can make on them?
This is assuming Panther is released before August.
Yeah.
And believe me, in a G4/5 tower, you know it has a fan. Judging by one of the recent revisions of the G4 tower, you may well be able to hear that it has a fan from several states away. For any other information on the delicious hardware inside this beast, you can always, I don’t know, check the fucking specifications.
That’s for a G5 with everything that I have in my PC. Even if you subtract $1000 for it veing a G5 and not a G4 (I’d subtract MAYBE $500 max), it’s still almost $1000 over what I paid. Oh yah, the G5 also doesn’t come with a printer. That’s another $150, about. Apples are over-priced, and I will never buy one, unless I’ve been convinced that they are somehow superior to PCs (that’s including the OS).
