You got a point there, I noticed it aswell…
Though the diverging of the beam isn’t such a big deal, as long as it doesn’t diverge that drastically (and as long as it stays one beam).
If I remember correctly, in C&C (the first game I am talking off) the ion-cannon had this tiny ‘scepter’ shaped laser-emitor that could ‘fire’ a bundled beam of ‘charged ions’ with a divering projection on a certain volume… Like where the U.S. military has been experimenting the last few years, which I read in my favorite magazine.
Believe it or not, a_F made an ion cannon model in CAD class. He had time to do so because three-fourths of every day was CAD. Mr. Nancarrow informed me that it uses magnetic contrictors to concentrate the beam. He also informed me that he likes to get drunk and screw anything that moves. It was at this point that Mr. Singer told me to “get back to my tube” and that I was disrupting class. The class that consisted of playing Liero and some motorcycle racing game. Once we even played Doom, and Gil whooped me good (or vice-versa). That was back in the day though, mind ye.

Hmmm, sounds interesting. When I posted that 3D modeled Kirel of mine on the forums, which must been very lame compared to what a_F is capable of!, A_F promised me in AIM to show me some of his models, in 3D Studio format.

I understand that the US Navy has been working with some rail-gun type weapons, while the Army has some light directed-light weapons intended to cause short term-paralysis. These are the only active weapons that I’ve heard of, but there are probably many more in the development stages.
